Post subject:  what this forum is about
you should be able to figure it out from lurking but a bit more info for those who can't or are just making sure they're on the right track

this is a forum for people who care a lot about etterna to talk about it with other people who care a lot about the game casually

want this place to have the good parts of ODI (fun, tight knit, and a great hub for discussion about the game/creating content for it) without the bad parts (2006 /b/ edginess and all of the nastiness that entails). more explicit info on undesirable behavior can be found in the rules

the initial motivation for making forum was from a lot of discussion about making a forum in the lofty 2 2 discord server. i kind of felt like doing something like this eventually anyway so. i did it

some frequently questioned answers provided below:
good question. this indeed could easily have been a discord and accomplished the goal stated above. but i do think that doing this on this forum has some nice underrated advantages:
  • forum structure instead of IRC-like channels means conversations are way more organized and can be slower paced
  • can add features as needed, not limited to what discord has
  • way better organization of conversations via forums/subforums/topics
  • way smoother migration of topics/posts to different forums/topics (this is so much smoother than having to type "#off-topic" and muting everyone who doesnt comply. which is what you need to do in discord if you want to move an off-topic discussion in a specific-subject channel)
  • way more control over everything, including presentation, emotes, formatting options available, moderation, etc...
  • people dont need to become a member if they just want to lurk for resources and whatnot
  • can actually back this up or archive it easily
  • its soulful as fuck
depending on your definition it very well may be. it's a community of people who generally share similar perspectives on the game and agree to go about their discourse in a certain way. though i think that people with opposing perspectives are welcome provided that they mesh with the culture well otherwise. in other words, if you're cool and have points with substance we'd be willing to hear you out if you really think that 300 file osu chordjack packs are some of the best shit ever and you think the minty crew is up their own asses about the supremacy of polys and runningmen

chances are though that if your initial reaction is to dismiss the forum as a bunch of nonsense its probably better for both of us if you dont participate
you can fix that by pressing the "New Topic" button on your forum of choice, or by pressing "Reply" to a topic that interests you. this is the optimal way to keep this forum alive; even moreso than throwing money at me because this only costs like $4/mo for me to run anyway

what you can do is use a file uploading site (i use https://catbox.moe/) to upload your file, then link to it using an IMG bbcode tag if its an image or a URL tag otherwise

its worth noting that catbox is a little bit slow when embedding so maybe there's better options out there. imgur kind of sucks (blocks vpns and the uk) so i wouldnt use that though
